Decades of research have described the parts of aging in extraordinary detail. This work asks a different question: what happens to the relationships between the parts — and whether losing those relationships is much of what we have been calling aging. The thesis

Coordination is not another biomarker.

A biomarker measures one signal. Coordination is the relationship among signals, feedback, interpretation and action across the whole organism — the degree to which mind, regulation and biology behave as one system. Oskar calls that relationship Human Coherence™. His working hypothesis has three parts: that coherence can be observed; that it declines before most individual markers do; and that interventions aimed at one layer plateau when the coherence between layers has not been restored first.

Mind

Meaning & orientation

Attention, expectation, identity, choice and the patterns that shape daily behavior. The image a person holds of themselves and of their own age is not a footnote to their biology; it is a signal their biology responds to. Almost nobody starts here. This model does.

Regulation

Feedback & adaptation

Autonomic, neuroendocrine, circadian and bioelectric processes that coordinate the whole. This is where coherence is most visible — and where it is most often lost.

Biology

Expression & renewal

Cells, tissues, metabolism, microbiome and the material conditions of function. Where most longevity spending goes — and where it plateaus when the two layers above are not in place.

The BioMastering Institute is being built to do one thing: turn Human Coherence™ from an idea into something that can be defined, measured, observed over time and published openly. Its research agenda — define, measure, observe, discover, share — is described on biomastering.com.

Its role in Oskar's work is to hold the evidence tiers, the reference list and, in time, the studies — separate from the programs, so that what is sold and what is claimed never share a page.

Supported knowledge

Well-replicated findings or broadly accepted mechanisms, linked to primary sources.

  • Living systems maintain themselves through feedback and control: homeostasis (Walter Cannon) and the cybernetic account of regulation (Norbert Wiener, W. Ross Ashby).
  • Aging is accompanied by a characteristic, catalogued set of cellular and molecular changes — the hallmarks of aging (López-Otín and colleagues, 2013; expanded 2023).
  • Biological age can be estimated from molecular signatures such as DNA-methylation patterns (Horvath; Hannum), and those estimates diverge from chronological age.
  • Chronic psychological stress is associated with measurable biological change — shorter telomere length and higher inflammatory markers among them (Epel and colleagues, 2004, and subsequent work).
  • Heart-rate variability reflects autonomic regulation and is associated with health outcomes across large populations.
